Cedar Ridge VictoryDragons end Regular Season 16-1 and 14-3

The Varsity Round Rock Dragon Lacrosse team completed regular season with a record of 16-1. The only loss was to a D1 team so Varsity went undefeated in Division II games and in District games. The final game was a win against Cedar Ridge, 12-11 in a game where the Dragons were never behind. The Dragons head off to the playoffs on Saturday April 27th as the Number 1 seed and will play the Vandegrift Vipers.

JV finished the season 14-3 and won their last game against Cedar Ridge 8-3. JV worked the largest game schedule for a JV progam in the district and did so very well!

Congratulations to both Dragon Teams!

McNeil VictoryDragons break Mavericks in OT to take lead in Central North

The Varsity Round Rock Dragon Lacrosse team faced the McNeil Mavericks in a critical league showdown on Wednesday March 27th.

The Dragons took control of the game and went to half with a 4-1 lead. The Mavericks said 'whoa nelly' and won the last half of the game by outscoring the Dragons in both the 3rd and 4th quarters. At the end of 4 quarters of play, it was a tie - 5-5! Overtime it is!

Not only was it OT, but the Dragons were man-down for the first 50 seconds. As is their style the Dragons persevered by holding the Mavericks at bay until the penalty was exhausted and the Dragons returned to full strength. The game winner happened half way through the overtime when Senior Attackman Conner Houghton fed his fraternal twin brother Walker for the game winning goal!

The win was ultimately secured by a team effort but a personal best effort was realized by Dragon goalie, Daniel Donovan, who had an amazing 16 saves for a 76% save ratio!

The team moves on to their next target this coming Tuesday April 2, when they entertain the Cedar Ridge Raiders at home. Come out and support the highly ranked 11-1 Dragon Lacrosse team!

GT Success

Dragons Defeat #5 Georgetown in Big District Contest!

The Varsity Dragon Lacrosse team faced the Georgetown Eagles in their first district contest of the season on March 5th. The Eagles were heavy favorites coming into the game coming off an 8 game winning streak. The Dragons were ready for them however.

Right from the start, the Dragons took control and never looked back. 1/2 way through the first quarter the Dragons were on the scoreboard. 4 unanswered goals later the Eagles finally put one in. It was 5-1 Dragons at the end of the quarter.

The Eagles fought a hard 2nd quarter and came out on top putting in 2 goals to the Dragons 1. However, the Dragons went into half time with a 6-3 lead.

The third and fourth quarters turned out to be ties, with the Dragons or the Eagles responding in kind to a score by the other. Thus, the 3 goal lead at half was maintained when the whistle sounded ending the game. Dragons 9 Eagles 6.

Game MVP's went to Senior Midfielder Walker Houghton with 4 goals, and goalie Daniel Donovan with 13 saves for a 68% game save ratio.

As spring break approached, the Dragons were 4th ranked in Division 2 in the state of Texas according to the national laxpower.com web site.

Come watch the Dragons after spring break to see if they can maintain their winning ways and hopefully make the play-offs for the first time in their history.

Aggieland

Dragons bring home dual Trophies from the 2013 Aggieland Tournament!

Both the Varsity and JV Dragons had an excellent showing at the 2013 Aggieland Tournament this February and both went undefeated. Winning the tournament for both Varsity and JV was not only a first win at Aggieland, but a first win of any kind for the 3rd year program!.

On their way to the trophy, the Varsity squad dismanteled Stratford-Westchester 9-5, Plano East 6-5, Bellaire 11-2, and finally in the championship game, McNeil 9-3.

McNeil seemed shocked as the Dragons totally controlled the field and rolled into half time with a 6-0 lead. A couple of fast breaks put the Mavericks on the board but the lead was too much for them to overcome. This is the first win ever for the Dragons against their RRISD rival.

JV took down Seven Lakes 4-1, Plano East 5-1, Dripping Springs 3-2, and Friendswood in the Championship game, 3-1. Coming off a regular season loss to Dripping springs made their triple overtime win in the semi-final game that much more sweet!

Both teams are poised for a great 2013 season!

Registration for the 3rd Annual Saturday Morning League is now Open!

This summer will see the third annual Saturday Morning League. This is a pick-up league with full-field games at the RR Lax practice fields each Saturday morning from 9AM until 11AM from June 15th through August 10th (except for July 6th).

Their is a small fee to help defray the cost of balls, lining materials, and referees. Go to our League web page for complete information.

Last year over 80 players from a dozen different programs participated. Most coming from Round Rock and Georgetown. Think it is a conincidence these are the two best teams in the North? I think not!
